Training Ground Opening Times

The opening times for the gallops at Lambourn fluctuate throughout the year. The Operations Manager at Lambourn tries to take into account the needs of trainers who use the gallops regularly when deciding which gallops are opened and closed seasonally.  At the start of each gallop there is a large display board which indicates the opening and closing times for that specific gallop as well as the closure times for maintenance. Trainers and visitors are advised to take note of what is on the display boards regularly as times may change on any day and must be adhered to at all times. Maintenance Programme

A strict and regular maintenance programme is necessary to provide horses and trainers with high quality training facilities which are maintained to the highest level: this also helps with continuity across each surface and also keeps the Training Grounds as safe an environment as possible for all trainers and horses using the training grounds.   
The maintenance programme for both turf and artificial surfaces is as follows:

• The turf gallops are walked daily and repaired in daily by hand.
• The all weather gallops are maintained with a gallop master.
• Daily maintenance is carried out on each of the all weather gallops, involving at least three mechanical passes throughout the morning and an additional pass in the afternoon.
• Weekly passes are carried out with a power harrow which helps to eliminate compaction and create a more stable training surface.
