National Hunt & Schooling Facilities

Many Newmarket trainers hold dual purpose licenses, training steeplechasers and hurdlers as well as flat horses.

The Links National Hunt training grounds provide excellent facilities  for National Hunt horses at all stages of their jumping careers.

The Links are located off the A1304 (Newmarket to Cambridge road) adjacent to the Links Golf Club. The facilities include:

  • 11/2 mile round gallop (turf).
  • 2 mile round gallop (turf).
  • Five 4 ft steeplechase fences (turf).
  • Three 4 bar hurdles (2.6ft) and 2 five bar hurdles (3ft.) (turf).
  • Three 3 ft french hurdles (turf).
  • Boarded loose school (all weather).
  • 1/4f pole jump track (all weather).
  • 21/2f schooling strip (all weather) including three 3.3ft hurdles and two 3.9ft fences, one with an open ditch.

These facilities are used regularly by trainers and point to point permit holders based outside Newmarket who may use the 101/2f Cambridge Polytrack in addition.
